The Mazzoncini Hillsdale High School sign was designed and fabricated from a rough hewn block of light grey granite. The elevated plaque area is part of the sign as the surrounding surfaces have been hammered back. This gives the illusion that there is a plaque on the stone but it is in reality one piece; it is very unique, very durable, with a very distinctive look.
