The Podesta Memorial is one of the most outstanding examples of a hand-crafted monument.
All pieces were notched and interlocked together providing strength and a very classic design appearance. The actual floral design was cut and carved by hand.
The entire unit was knocked over by a large tree during a severe storm. Due to the nature of its construction (interlocked and jointed pieces), the entire unit came down in one piece and fortunately, it wasn't completely destroyed.
The repair and restoration project was quite extensive. Numerous areas had to be repaired, resurfaced and reground while other areas had to be replaced entirely with matching marble. Most importantly, the restoration project was hand-tool finished.
Completely renovated, repaired, and restored to its original appearance, it is restoration projects like the Podesta Monument, which has established V. Fontana & Co.'s reputation for the last 80 years.
